Approximately 700 students will take part in this year's annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival.
The event marks the 70th anniversary of the festival. Chair Chuck Scott says the events are a good motivator for young musicians. "I'm sure teachers and parents would feel it gives the participants a reason and excuse to commit themselves a bit more. Train harder on the keyboard and vocal training or strings to participate because they're aiming towards these competitions."
Piano, vocal, instrumental and string classes will all be judged with $9,000 in prizes and 60 trophies to be awarded.
The event runs from April 7-10 and April 13-15 at a variety of local schools, churches and venues with the Grand Concert held at Kiwanis Theatre April 28.
