Windsor West MP Brian Masse is building support for bike lanes to be included on the new Windsor-Detroit bridge.
The NDP member of parliament spoke at the Ontario Bike Summit in Toronto, Wednesday.
He says bicycle access at the border would be not just good for Essex County, but for the province. "Detroit, Michigan is really expanding its cycling and pedestrian walking, and Windsor has the new Herb Gray Pkwy. cycle and multi-use pathway which we can connect into the Chrysler Greenway out in Essex County. So we can really create a multimodal application here," explains Masse.
About 400 organizations, individuals, not-for-profits and government officials listened to Masse at Wednesday's summit.
The only entity not on board yet is the federal government, but it's expected to make its decision in the next 6-12 months, when it drafts an RFP for the bridge.
