The provincial PC party doesn't see anything funny about a Liberal joke involving Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls.
The provincial Liberals handed out copies of National Geographic with a cover article "The War on Science'' in the legislature, making fun of Tory MPP Rick Nicholls who said earlier this week that he doesn't believe in evolution.
Interim PC leader Jim Wilson calls it a "new low" for the Liberals, especially considering they were celebrating the work of the Human Rights Commission the same day.
"What we saw in Mr. Nicholls' case is an expression of his personal religious view, it's held by other people in Canada and around the world," says Wilson. "I don't agree with it and it doesn't reflect the policy of the party, but it is a religious view and should be respected."
Deputy Premier Deb Matthews says the Liberals were just having fun with Nicholls' comments on evolution after he spoke out against Ontario's revised sex-education curriculum.
