UPDATE: Highway 40 Crash Turns Fatal

Both Chatham-Kent police and the OPP continue to investigate a fatal crash on Hwy. 40 at Electric Line.

OPP Srgt. Brian Knowler says officers arrived on scene around 6:50am to find a car that struck a tree on the north shoulder of Hwy. 40. Knowler says the 40-year-old Chatham man, who was the lone occupant, was taken to hospital in Wallaceburg where he was pronounced dead

"At the time the roads were dry and bare which is another one of the reasons we've asked our collision investigators to come out," says Knowler. "The road conditions were more or less ideal so there may be more here than meets the eye that we just haven't been able to dig into yet."

Hwy. 40 was closed between Bush Line and Robin Line for a couple hours Thursday morning, but it is now open to traffic in both directions.
