Wallaceburg Property Approved For Marijuana Use

Chatham-Kent Council is planting the seeds for a possible medical marijuana production facility.

The property, located between Mason Street and Base Line, is being considered by a few companies and entrepreneurs for growing marijuana.

Ward 5 Councillor Jeff Wesley says this is a progressive business opportunity that Chatham-Kent should jump on. "This is something that is coming forward and if our community can take advantage of that and have that facility, I'd be all in support of that."

Wesley adds there are a lot of hoops that have to be jumped through to set up a project like this, but growing things is right in Chatham-Kent's wheelhouse. "Really medical marijuana is nothing more than another agricultural product that we can add to the dozens and dozens we already have in Chatham-Kent."

Wesley adds the next steps for these competing businesses will be researching Health Canada regulations and security requirements.
