Teachers Endorse Strike Mandate

Despite Ontario's elementary teachers voting 95 per cent in favour of strike action if necessary, the president of the Lambton-Kent Elementary Teachers Federation says contract talks are progressing well.

Ron Rivait says they've been meeting with the province throughout the fall on issues like salaries and benefits.

He says the vote is a good bargaining tool as talks resume in January.

Rivait says there is no timeline for a potential strike. He says they're working under new legislation and aren't in a rush to put any action in place.

The local Federation represents 1,400 elementary teachers in Lambton and Kent counties.
