Organic Council Rep Offers Ways To Cope With Loss Of Neonics

(With reporting from Marty Thompson)

Jodie Koberinski says the government's pollinator health proposals are a more measured and gentle approach than her group would have liked to have seen.

She's a board member with the Organic Council of Ontario.

She says her group is among many in the province who would have preferred a total ban on neo-nics, not just an 80 per cent cut in neo-nic treated seed acreage.

Koberinski argues council members prove year after year that you can grow corn and soybeans without the use of neo-nics.

She says her organisation would be eager to share their techniques with traditional farmers to help them make the transition away from the use of the pesticide.

Koberinski was among those attending today's public consultation session on the government's proposal in London.

Jodie Koberinski suggests council members have a lot to offer in terms of creating new approaches that don't require the use of the seed treatments.
