Chatham-Kent police are again set to remind drivers to lock up their vehicles.
After participating in the Lock It Or Lose It campaign last year, the Chatham-Kent Police Service is taking part in the province-wide initiative again this year.
Constable Renee Cowell says of concern is thieves stealing indetifying documents from unlocked vehicles.
"Although we've seen a decrease in vehicle theft, we're noticing that cases of identity theft and fraud have increased across Canada approximately 6%, which certainly concerns us," says Cowell. "Thieves want access to your personal documents such as vehicle registration or insurance as it containts your personal information. With this information, they can assume your identity and even access your financial accounts."
The campaign will see officers partolling parking lots reminding vehicle owners to keep valuables out of sight and to lock up.
