New Bridge Project Moving Along

Many steps, including acquiring hundreds of properties, still need to happen before anyone breaks ground on the new Windsor-Detroit bridge.

A pre-procurement process is underway trying to obtain 1,220 properties on the U.S. side and six or seven properties on the Canadian side.

President and CEO of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority Michael Cautillo says companies are currently bidding on a number of contracts for the bridge. "The biggest hurdle is time. Time and resources. Time to get resources and resources so that you can move on undertaking a number of these other activities," says Cautillo. "Remember over the past three months my job has been to set up the authority, staff it and so we can move on to the procurement process."

Cautillo won't say when the main tender will be issued.

The federal government maintains the new bridge should open by 2020.
