Beef Farmers of Ontario is urging all beef and dairy producers to limit the culling of cows until volumes normalize.
In a release, B-F-O says processing backlogs have plagued the eastern Canadian beef sector due a lack of sufficient processing capacity and plant closures.
Recent shutdowns in the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic has put further pressure on the processing sector.
Other recommendations include not shipping cull animals in poor health or condition, as well as consulting your transporter and auction the day before shipping, as protocols are currently in a very fluid state and are subject to change, depending on the individual auction market
