Weather perfect for Drainage Innovation Day in Huron County

The President of the Huron County Soil and Crop Improvement Association says the weather cooperated perfectly for Saturday's Drainage Innovation Field Day at the demonstration site behind the health unit, south of Clinton.

The event was co-hosted by the Association and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and Doug Walker says they were hoping for the type of weather that would keep farmers off their fields and they got that. He also pointed out they had to deal with a bit of mud on Saturday, but that's the whole point of tile draining....to help farmers manage the mud.

Walker says they were hoping to attract around 700 people to the demonstration and at noon it looked like they would hit that target, noting “We were kind of hoping that we'd have a little bit of weather that farmers couldn't be out on the fields today and we got that. We're dealing with a little bit of mud right now but that's one of the good reasons for tile draining is you want to put it in property so you can manage the mud.”
