Dairy concerns in new food guide

The Dairy Farmers of Canada say they remained concerned that the new Canada Food Guide does not reflect the most recent scientific evidence avaiable.

In a release, DFC says milk products continue to play a valuable role in helping Canadians make healthy eating choices on a daily basis.

Dairy Farmers of Canada Health Education Manager Lee Finell says consumers need to be aware that there is still a lot to like when it comes to dairy in your diet.

DFC noted Health Canada's own 2015 evidence review showed that, when it comes to reducting disease, type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer, the evidence for milk is as strong, if not stronger, than it is for vegetables, fruit and plant-based protein foods.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
