Residents of Markham's Cathedraltown neighborhood are upset about a $1.2M piece of artwork that depicts Brookview Tony Charity, an award-winning Holstein that lived on Romandale Farm.
Some residents say the statue is out of place, and have asked for it's removal. Some residents have went as far as calling the statue "Religiously-offensive".
Other residents support keeping the cow, as a reminder of how the community began, with one resident noting that the land Cathedraltown is located on was donated by Romandale Farms, and the bovine depicted represents a significant part of the history of the community.
Stephen Roman purchased Brookview Tony Charity for $1.45M in 1985, which at the time set a new record for the price of a cow. Charity was the All-Canadian winner from 1982-1985, and again in 1987.
