Ontario's beef farmers are getting to work on a $1.8 million project to boost sales in the province and across the country.
Owen Roberts of Farm Credit Canada notes the initiative will span three years and look to capture unique markets in Ontario.
He says there's still much potential to grow the industry here at home, as families with small herds are finding ways to supply niche products.
The Beef Farmers of Ontario feel the same way about the notion.
The group says beef farms of all sizes can be successful, as niche ones are able to charge a premium for their products.
Roberts also points out the Ontario beef sector has been dwindling.
Over the last 10 years, production has dropped by 13 per cent, while the provincial cow herd has shrunk by more than 30 per cent.
