Egg production across the country is rising.
Statistics Canada says producers sold 64.3 million dozen eggs in the month of December.
That's up 6 per cent from the same month in 2015, and 600,000 dozen more than in November.
December egg production for Ontario topped 24.1 million dozen, an increase of almost 5 points from a year earlier.
The Canadian on-farm price of eggs during December was up an average of almost one cent per dozen, while provincial prices were were up a tenth of a cent to 149.8.
StatsCan also notes year-over-year placements of hatchery chicks in Canada increased another 1.5 per cent in January.
Stocks of frozen poultry meat in cold storage to start February were at 74,000 tonnes, which is about 4 per cent more than the same time last year.
