Yesterday marked what the Canadian Federation of Agriculture is calling "Food Freedom Day".
The federation points out that in 2016, Canadians spent 10.7 per cent of their disposable income on food, after spending 11 per cent in 2015.
CFA did the math and figures February 8th is 39th day of the year, which means the average Canadian has generated enough income to cover food costs for 2017.
At a launch event near Parliament Hill, CFA President Ron Bonnett said the federation is taking a closer look at the relationships between Canadians, their food, and farming communities.
He feels the 150th birthday of the nation is an ideal chance to raise awareness of how Canadians get to enjoy safe and affordable food from Canada's farmers.
The CFA notes Canada is consistently ranked in top five countries for lowest food costs.
