Canada's Minister of Agriculture Lawrence MacAulay continued to carry out the government's new rigorous approach to Governor in Council appointments.
Yesterday, he announced Anthony Douglas Chorney as Assistant Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Grain Commission.
Minister MacAulay says Chorney has proven to be a hard-working member of the ag community.
He adds he's confident the new assistant will serve the interests of Canada's grain producers to help the Commission deliver results.
Chorney was president of Keystone Agricultural Producers for five years.
He's also served on the board of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation.
He'll leave his current post as Vice-Chair of the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council to start his five-year term with the CGC on February 13th.
The government notes the new approach to appointments is merit-based, open and transparent, to better support Ministers with recommendations for positions that best fit the job requirements.
