U.S. Farmland Values Still Declining -- But Slowing Down

Farmland values in the United States are down for the 38th month in a row.

Mike Verdin of Agrimoney.com says continued worries over low ag commodity prices are the cause of the decline.

However, he also points out the extended slide is starting to slow down.

Verdin says Creighton University's farmland index for America is now at 33.8, where 50 is considered to be a neutral market.

But he also notes the index is the highest in 14 months, well up on the 26.8 seen just one month ago.

In a similar trend, the U.S. farm equipment index has been negative for three and a half years, but December was up 3.4 points on 2015, its highest level in 18 months
