Manitoba Reduces Red Tape Around Barn Buildings

Manitoba's Progressive Conservative government is working to reduce the red tape around farm buildings to boost the province's ag industry.

Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler announced the regulation changes yesterday, which should simplify the construction and renovation of barns.

Dan Mazier, Keystone Agricultural Producers president, tells the Western Producer that his group is extremely pleased with the announcement.

He feels farmers in the province can now compete with producers in other jurisdictions where there aren't excessive regulations, making the cost of building barns cheaper.

The new rules include a new human occupancy classification, which means barns won't need the same fire codes as a house.
