Canadian Milk Sales On The Rise

Canadian milk sales were up for both farmers and processors last November.

Statistics Canada reports dairy processors sold 239 million litres of milk and cream in the month, a gain of 1.3 per cent on November 2015.

Milk sales for those processors were up 0.8 per cent on the year, while sales of cream rose by 4.6 per cent.

StatsCan notes total farm cash receipts across the nation in November were up 3.4 per cent from a year earlier, up to $530 million.

Ontario farm cash receipts saw a slightly better gain, picking up 3.7 per cent from 2015 to a total of $173 million.

StatsCan also points out cheddar cheese stocks to start December were down by 2.2 per cent on the year, while process cheese stocks rose by a full 8 points.
