Cattle prices have started the year with mixed results.
The Beef Farmers of Ontario report 855 more head of cull cows sold through auction markets last week, leading to a decline in prices of $2.77.
The average price of $69.53 is 19 dollars below what it was to start 2016.
Fed steer and heifer prices both saw gains last week.
BFO reports steers prices averaged $141.59, up $2.40 on the week.
Heifers picked up $4.42, averaging $146.17.
The farmers say last week ended with active trading at prices 2 dollars higher.
Ontario railgrade prices were 7 dollars higher for steers and $7.50 higher for heifers last week, still both are down 40 dollars from this time last year.
