If you're looking at winter feeding options OMAFRA has a few suggestions when it comes to pasturing.
The ministry notes a good way to boost growth next year is by increasing fertility.
OMAFRA's grazing specialist Jack Kyle says doing so for your pasture can be easily done by feeding with a bale feeder or feeder wagon.
It's important though to make sure feeders get move every day or so to new ground, to spread fertilization throughout the entire pasture.
Kyle says farmers who do so are always surprised by how much grass production improves over the next few years.
He also points out farmers looking to save on winter feed can put cows out on corn fields.
Cows can forage through snow up to a foot deep and will graze nicely on stalks and corn missed by the combine.
