Metacam 20 has been given approval for use here in Canada.
The Boehringer Ingelheim product was granted access to the market after research studies showed an influence in cows' behaviour when treated by Metacam 20 immediately prior to abdominal surgery.
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association points out the usefulness of the drug during C-sections.
Previous Canadian research had shown some beneficial results from administering Metacam 20 a while before such sugery.
Other veterinary procedures on other species have also made use of the drug in Canada since the start of the year.
