Yesterday representatives from all 10 provinces and more than 50 agricultural industry associations gathered in Ottawa for the National Plant and Animal Health Forum.
The event is aimed at building a national strategy for plant and animal health, with a focus on strengthening the ag sector through collaboration, innovation and risk prevention.
Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay says the forum provides a unique opportunity for those involved to identify and discuss the actions needed for the strategy.
He feels Canadians in agriculture need to work together, learning from each other's successes and failures, to protect the industry.
Provincial, territorial and federal ag ministers endorsed the forum this summer.
They'll receive the national plant and animal health strategy at their annual meeting in July.
