Two of Ontario's cabinet ministers have wrapped up an agri-food trade mission in India.
Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Michael Chan, Minister of International Trade, led the first ever trade mission and were joined by delegates from Ontario agri-food businesses and organizations.
A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Forum of Indian Food Importers, FIFI, to facilitate trade and investment in Ontario and strengthen relationships among agri-food businesses and organizations. Ministers and delegates also promoted Ontario’s cutting edge agri-technology and economic opportunities to more than 300 Indian agri-food companies and government officials.
“This mission provided Ontario with the opportunity to showcase our cutting edge agri-technology and products while laying a strong foundation for future trade and investment with India. We will continue working to increase agri-food exports to meet demands in the Indian market, to transfer technology in food processing and distribution and to build partnerships in educational training and food retailing. By working together, we will build on the success of this mission and boost agri-food trade, jobs and economic growth for both regions,” said Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Officials say the mission built on the momentum of Premier Kathleen Wynne’s trade mission to India earlier this year, and helped demonstrate Ontario’s continued commitment to forging strong economic relationships that allow the province to remain globally competitive.
