WASDE Projects Lower Pork And Beef Prices For A Year

The USDA's newest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report shows increased total red meat and poultry production from last month.

The department notes lowered broiler and turkey production was offset by bigger fourth quarter estimates in pork and beef production.

Beef production projections increased based on bigger slaughters and heavier weights.

The report notes pork estimates jumped due to record slaughter numbers so far this month.

Poultry production was lowered as September slaughter numbers were lower than expected.

Recent data showing less dairy inventory than previously figured has led to lowered milk production estimates for the next 12 months as well.

The USDA suggests cattle prices will continue to decline for the rest of 2016 and all of 2017 as large supplies are expected to continue through next year.

The same goes for pork as volumes will keep pressure on prices.

However, the department adds pork prices could come up a year from now as new slaughter facilities become operational.
