On the heels of increased trade agreements to China and the European Union, Canadian pork producers may have another partner increasing its imports.
The Canadian Pork Council says it's very pleased with talks of a free trade agreement with the Ukraine.
CPC Chair Rick Bergmann feels the trade deal is a big opportunity for Canada's pork industry.
He says the industry is in a good position to supply healthy and safe pork to the Ukraine as the political landscape settles there and the economy starts to grow.
The tabled agreement gives our producers an initial free-tariff quota of 10,000 tonnes, then doubling that to 20,000 tonnes after eight years.
The council adds that's worth an estimated $40 million in sales.
