Maple Leaf notes sales in fresh pork were up as it focused on value-added pork business which increased sale volumes.
It's jump in fresh poultry sales was credited to an improved sales mix.
President and CEO Michael McCain says the results demonstrate the company's expected performance after many years of strategic transformation.
He adds he's focused now on the next horizon, driving innovation and growth for a sustainable future while they reduce costs and expand the business.
Maple Leaf's Agribusiness Group saw adjusted operating earnings decrease to an eventual loss of $4.4 million, down from a profit of $1.6 million in 2015.
