GFO Says CETA Provides Level Playing Field

The Grain Farmers of Ontario say Canada's new trade agreement with the European Union is good for the province's producers.

The group feels CETA can benefit farmers by providing more market access for corn, soybeans, barley and oats.

GFO Chair Mark Brock says increased access will lead to even more trade with the E.U., as 94 per cent of agricultural tariff lines will be eliminated.

He adds the signing of the deal shows strong leadership within the government of Canada.

Negotiations for CETA first started in 2009.

The organization also points out the reduced trade barriers gives Ontario grain farmers the ability to compete with world markets on a level playing field.
