The signing of CETA has led to some mixed reviews from dairy producers.
Some are excited for the chance to export more milk to Europe, others are concerned about cheaper cheeses coming our way.
Dairy Farmers of Ontario Chair Ralph Dietrich says now that the deal is signed, farmers must focus on the positives.
"It's been a while since negotiations were completed. At that point in time we talked a lot about the Processor Modernization Fund at $450 million," says the Chair.
"The signing of the agreement now depends largely on follow-through. I think that's very important for the industry."
Dietrich adds long-term security remains the same for dairy farmers as it did before.
He also notes the organization is waiting to hear further about the Producer Compensation Fund and what the process will entail.
As for cheeses, Dietrich feels it's a hidden gem in the province and the country which will remain competitive as long as processors continue to modernize their operations.
