Dairy Farmers Awaiting Compensation Now That CETA Has Been Signed

The Dairy Farmers of Canada say that now the CETA deal has been signed, they'll await ratification and see how the government will fulfill its promise of compensation and mitigation.

DFC President Wally Smith says Canadian dairy farmers and cheesemakers eagerly await that announcement.

He adds he's please about how the organization has been able to get the federal government to understand that lost market opportunities warrant compensation.

The group feels the market access given in CETA will cost Canadian dairy farmers and cheesemakers up to $116 million in lost milk sales due to European cheeses coming into the country.

DFC also says they'll stand strong with Canadian cheesemakers as they attempt to continue to grow the dairy market.
