MPP Barrett Wants Progress In Reducing Ag Red Tape

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett wants to know what's being done to reduce red tape and regulations by the Minister of Agriculture.

Barrett based his questioning in Legislature yesterday on the Ontario Chamber of Commerce report "Fertile Ground".

The report noted bureaucratic red tape to be one of the largest challenges to today's farmers, on top of electricity prices, input costs and foreign competition.

The MPP and Agriculture Critic said policies are not evidence based and not transparent while also not unbiased.

Barrett also pointed out to the minister the chamber recognized how difficult it is for farming operations to run today as electricity prices have jumped by 383 per cent since 2004.

In a release, the MPP says he was unable to get an answer as his questioning was dodged by the minister.
