In recognition of the first ever Global Fertilizer Day, Fertilizer Canada is doing it's part to inform citizens of the benefits of 4R Nutrient Stewardship.
The group says the program reduces greenhouse gas emissions as well as leaching into the ground and surface water.
They add the program is simple. It involves the use of the right source at the right rate at the right time in the right place.
Garth Whyte, President and CEO of Fertilizer Canada says they want to be part of the solution for the country and the world.
He wants Canadian farmers to be part of sustainable future as the world's population pushes towards 9.6 billion people in the next 35 years.
The organization notes 2.1 million acres are already under the practices of 4R management in Canada.
The goal is to have 20 million acres, approximately 25 per cent of farm land, under the stewardship program by 2020.
