Nearly a quarter billion hogs were slaughtered in the U.S. last week.
According to Ron Plain of the University of Missouri, last week's 2.47 million head were the third most in a week ever.
He points out the only other higher weeks both occurred in the lead up to Christmas in 2015 and 2007.
The high process numbers led to another 3 dollar dip in U.S. prices on the week.
Plain says it is remarkably early in the fall to see such massive hog slaughter numbers.
America's national negotiated barrow and gilt price was also down $3.19 from the previous week, which is a drop of nearly 17 dollars from last year.
Year-to-date hog slaughter in the U.S. is up 0.8 per cent so far.
Canada has followed that trend, up 1.6 per cent.
And while lighter weights have led to a U.S. overall production increase of only 0.2 per cent so far this year, our nation has upped pork production by 2.2 percent.
