Decline In Beef Prices Starting To Slow

The slide in beef prices is beginning to slow down.

The Beef Farmers of Ontario say last week's auction markets for stocker and feeder cattle traded with solid demand and steady to stronger prices.

Though more than a thousand head were sold last week than the week before, the 4,583 were still 149 less than a year ago.

Prices for fed steers were down slightly, averaging a 20 cent decrease on the week.

Fed heifers were down $1.75. Both are down more than 51 dollars from this time last year.

Culls cow sales were up just over 230 head both for the week and the year.

Average sale prices were $77.10 last week, down 28 cents from seven days earlier and down $27.56 from 2015.

BFO notes Ontario Railgrade prices took the hardest hit last week with prices averaging nearly 12 dollars lower than the week prior, which is down more than 98 dollars from this time last year.
