Creating Antibiotic & Hormone Free Antimicrobial Poultry Feed Additives

An Ontario company is getting funding to help develop a new line of antimicrobial feed additives to help control disease outbreaks in poultry flocks.

The additives being developed by AbCelex are described as being both non-antibiotic and non-hormonal.

They're specifically aimed at two of the most common food-borne bacteria that infect poultry - Campylobacter and Salmonella.

The 3 point 4 million dollars investment is coming from the AgriInnovation Program under the federal-provincial Growing Forward 2 platform.

AbCelex is a Canadian company headquartered in Mississauga.

It's working with the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Toronto and the Colorado Quality Research Incorporated on the additives.
