The average live price for U-S hogs in June was the highest since December of 2014.
According to Ron Plain's Hog Market Commentary, the average price for 51-52 per cent lean hogs in the U-S was up over 3 dollars in June from May and over a dollar higher than it was in June of last year.
On the other hand, U-S hog prices were down last week.
Plain reports the national negotiated barrow and gilt carcass price was down over 3 dollars from the week before and down almost 2 dollars from a year ago.
Last week's U-S hog slaughter was just over 2 point 1 million head, up over 16 per cent from the week before and 2 per cent from the same week last year.
Plain points out the previous week's slaughter volume was smaller because of the Independence Day holiday.
