Growmark Announces Ontario 4-H Essay Contest Winners

4-H members from Chatham-Kent, Frontenac and Hamilton Wentworth took the top three spots in this year's Growmark Essay contest.

The contest is designed to help young people develop their writing skills, learn about current issues in agriculture, and understand the unique role of co-operatives.

First-place finisher was Kieran Shannon of Glenburnie, in the Kingston area.

Sarah Campbell of Chatham-Kent and Mikayla Ringelberg of Hamilton Wentworth rounded out the top three.

Shannon won 500 dollars and the Frontenac 4-H Association took home 300 dollars for her essay on what young people can do to ensure the sustainability of agriculture.

Her essay talked about the need for young people to step up and have honest and balanced conversations to change the way people view agriculture in the 21st century.

Campbell and Ringelberg each receive 125 dollars for their efforts in the Growmark essay contest for 4-H members.
