Jeff Jacques doesn't expect stripe rust to have any significant impact on the overall provincial wheat crop.
The rust started in the southwest and has moved into fields in Huron and Bruce this spring.
The Parrish and Heimbecker Sales and Agronomy Manager says the disease appears limited to just one strain of wheat.
He says many growers were also quick to spray to deal with the disease.
Jacques suggests farmers will be spraying the wheat again in the next few days as the crop heads and that spray will also deal with the stripe rust situation.
"The wheat is starting to head out and most fields are going to be sprayed here with a fungicide called Prosaro or Carumba and both of those are very effective on rust."
Despite the limited stripe rust problem, he describes the Ontario wheat crop as being in phenomenal shape with huge yield potential.
