The Executive Director of the Canadian Pork Council suggests CETA will be of minimal value to Canadian agriculture and agri-food exporters the way it now stands.
John Ross says while the CFIA has approved access of EU beef and veal from 19 member states to Canada, the EU has not yet done the same.
Ross argues that means no commercially viable access to the EU for the Canadian meat industry while opening the door to substantially increased volumes of EU meat and dairy products.
The CPC Executive Director is on a mission to Brussels and the United Kingdom this week as part of a delegation from Canada's cattle and meat processing sectors.
Ross says they're hoping they'll be able to put the industry on the right path to also benefit from CETA.
The mission includes meetings with UK government officials, meat and livestock industry reps from the EU and member states and the Canadian High Commission.
