Durham-Area Woman Hoping For Beef Young Leadership Spot

A Grey County woman is one of three Ontario applicants named semi-finalists for the 2016 Cattlemen's Young Leaders program.

Melissa Hurst of Durham joins Chloe Gresel of Erin and Jason Hurst of Guelph among the 24 semifinalists.

There are 16 positions available this year.

The Cattlemen's Young Leaders Program matches up young people with industry mentors for a nine-month mentorship in their area of interest.

It gives them knowledge in their area of interest, exposure to the Canadian Cattlemen's Association and it's provincial members, an expanded network and personal growth.

Spokesperson Jill Harvie says the semifinalists were chosen from nearly 50 applicants.

Those getting a mentorship position in the program for 2016 will be named at the Selections and Graduation event at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Alberta on August 9th.
