Canadian food prices were up 3 point 6 per cent in March from a year ago.
Statistics Canada reports the cost of food purchased from stores was up 4 p er cent, from restaurants up 2 p oint 6 per cent.
The numbers agency says the fresh vegetables index was up almost 15 per cent - the fresh fruit index up just over 11 per cent - from March of 2015.
The year-over-year increase in meat prices was 3 point 2 per cent - the biggest year-over-year increase that index has posted since November of 2015.
Statscan reports the overall Consumer Price Index was up 1 point 3 per cent in March from a year ago.
