Canadian Hog Slaughter, Live Exports Up Year-Over-Year

Federal hog slaughter in Canada is up 4 per cent so far this year.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports live hog exports to the U-S are up 10 per cent.

Ontario's average weekly price for the week ending March 12th was up just over 13 per cent from the same week last year.

In the U-S, the national negotiated barrow and gilt price average last week was up $1.41 from the week before.

Ron Plain's University of Missouri Hog Outlook has last week's U-S hog slaughter at 2 point 178 million head - down about half a per cent from the week before and 4 and a half per cent lower than the same week in 2015.
