OMAFRA Rejects Livestock Predator Claim From North Wellington

It appears Wellington North may have jumped the gun on a farmer's claim for compensation.

Council paid the farmer about 15 hundred dollars for a heifer killed in an apparent incident involving a cougar.

However, when the municipality applied to the province for that compensation, the claim was denied.

Turns out the heifer broke its neck after coming in contact with the predator, but suffered no bite wounds.

The lack of those wounds made the loss ineligible for a claim.

North Wellington council has decided not to try to get the money back from the farmer.
