The folks at Monsanto have changed things up a bit with their Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program.
The program has been open to graduating grade 12 students from farm families to help pay for post-secondary studies in agriculture or agriculture-related fields since it was set up in 1991.
This year, it will also be open to grade 12 students raised off the farm.
And it will be open to students pursuing a post-secondary education in agriculture or food related programs, which could include fields of study such as nutrition or the culinary arts.
Monsanto says up to 25 of the total of 65 scholarships will be offered to students from non-farm backgrounds.
Spokesperson Kelly Funke says more and more they're seeing that careers in food production, food preparation and nutrition are all part of the larger food system.
The scholarships are worth 15 hundred dollars apiece.
Application forms and complete program details are on the Monsanto website.
