Finisher Barns Top List Of This Year's Ontario PED Infected Sites

Ontario Pork reports most of the 9 new PED cases detected in the province this year have been due to infection in finisher barns.

Surveillance and trace back results suggest producers and truckers should consider processing facilities, abattoirs and assembly yards as high risk for PEDV transmission.

Producers are advised to contact their herd vet or Ontario Pork for biosecurity recommendations.

A PED surveillance program is underway at the two Ontario federally-licensed processing plants.

According to Ontario Pork, 20 per cent of the dock samples taken from those plants for the week of February 22nd were PEDV positive.
