Meet The Members

Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb says the last ten years have been very good for agriculture in the two counties.

Speaking at last week's "Meet the Members" event, hosted by the Huron Federation of Agriculture, Lobb conceded most of the pressing concerns for farmers are at the Provincial level.

But he pointed out multiple Federal trade agreements have been successful in reducing tariffs for virtually all products grown here that would be sold in other countries.

"We've completed multiple trade agreements, that reduces tariffs for virtually all products that we grow here and sell in foreign countries," says Lobb. "We just need to continue, both Lisa and myself and other elected members, to push hard at our jobs and represent the people that put us there."

Lobb adds Huron producers understand the Trans Pacific Partnership hasn't been ratified yet, but they realize the agreement does strike a balance between protecting supply management while expanding the interests of beef, pork and oil seeds sectors.

Delegations from dairy and egg producers were heard at the meeting and Lobb says they understand that Supply Management has been protected for the next generation, so he believes overall it was a very positive meeting.
