There will be five more additions to the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame.
To qualify, inductees must have demonstrated visionary leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the advancement of agriculture in Ontario.
“Ontario agriculture is rooted in a rich history and innovations that continue to drive our sector,” says President Barry Fraser, Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame Association. “The five inductees for 2016 represent a cross-section of our industry and each of them has left a lasting legacy for the benefit of future generations.”
Here are the five:
- Bruce Chrisite's career was with Shur-Gain and championed responsible animal care through best management practices. He worked to build public trust in food and farming through his leadership with Farm and Food Care.
- Graeme Walker Hedley impacted the beef cattle industry from animal welfare to electronic auction sales, risk management programs and marketing.
- Tom Sawyer was committed to a viable and sustainable Ontario crop input and production industry. That included his vision for the Certified Crop Advisors program.
- Deborah Whale has been involved with ag research and poultry disease prevention and and environmental sustainability.
- William Lyall Campbell will be honoured posthumously, he was a leader and innovator in the North American sod industry for 42 years.
