Canada's soybean industry was showcased in Japan and South Korea during a recent trade mission.
South Korea is a newer market for Canadian soybeans thanks to a new Free trade Agreement coming into affect last year.
Executive Director of Soy Canada, Jim Everson, says quality is key for Canadian exports.
"We hear a lot about the quality of the Canadian product, the environment that we grow soybeans here in Ontario and eastern Canada, and our quailty assurance program," says Everson. "And that I think pays dividends in the international market place."
Soy Canada met with the Korea Agriculture, Fishereis and Food Trade Coporation as well as other industry associations including those representing the tofu and soy sauce industries.
In Japan, Soy Canada reps met with 130 companies and associations.
In the last four years, Canada has exported over 1.2-million t of food-grade soybeans to Japan valued at nearly $1-billion.
