Holstein Canada has a new National Director to the Board of Directors.
Dennis Werry is from the Oshawa area and will serve as Director for Northern & Central Ontario. The position was vacant as a result of the upcoming retirement of the current President John Buckley.
Werry milks 80 cows and farms 550 acres just north of Oshawa and recently the herd was moved into a new GEA robotic compost pack barn.
Werry is a Past President of the Ontario Holstein Branch and a past Director on the Ontario Holstein Branch Board of Directors from 2002-2010. He believes one of Holstein Canada’s first responsibilities is to maintain communication between the Association and its provincial branches, and in turn, the member producers across the country.
According to Holstein Canada, Werry's perspective as a producer operating with robots will be increasingly important as the industry continues to change quickly, and more producers install robotic equipment in their operations.
The next Holstein Canada Annual General Meeting is in Banff, Alta. on April 23.
